With this service you can get directions and routes for transit, biking, driving, and walking. Calculate current or future travel times based on real-time traffic. The API returns the most efficient routes when calculating directions. Travel time is the primary factor for calculating the most efficient routes. But the API may also take into account other factors such as distance, number of turns and many more. This is valuable for apps who want to give their users direct directions from A to B without the need to switch to a navigation system.
Create precise itineraries by determining the route a vehicle has traveled and the nearest roads along each point of the vehicle’s journey. The Roads API identifies the roads a vehicle was traveling along and provides additional metadata about those roads, such as speed limits. The API has 3 available services:
- Snap to roads
This service returns the best-fit road geometry for a given set of GPS coordinates and also comes with an ability to fill in any gaps to create a fluid polyline. This will help save processing data because you need less GPS coördinates because this Snap to roads feature will calculate the coordinates between them.
- Nearest roads
This service returns individual road segments that are closest by for a given set of GPS coordinates. Very useful in cases where you need to maintain something which isn’t easy to access, for example windmills or railways. You send a certain location and you will get the nearest roads to that location.
- Speed limits
This service returns the posted speed limit for a road segment. The Speed Limit service is only available to customers with an Asset Tracking license.
