High Tech Campus & Localyse: How we literally steered the ‘Customer Journey’ for 300 companies

With over 300 companies and thousands of daily visitors, the High Tech Campus (HTC) in Eindhoven is a major economic hotspot. Yet, visitors were getting lost in large numbers. Google Maps ignored the main exit and sent guests via forest paths and closed gates. Localyse intervened at the source and restored digital accessibility.

The challenge

An invisible front door

The High Tech Campus possesses perfect physical infrastructure, including its own dedicated exit (32a) on the A2/N2 highway. However, in the digital reality of Google Maps, things went wrong.

  • The wrong turn: The algorithm incorrectly marked the main access road as a ‘private road’. As a result, exit 32a was completely ignored.
  • Confusing data: Streets were digitally named “HTC” instead of “High Tech Campus”, causing search queries to fail.
  • The consequence: Visitors were sent via guardrails, unpaved forest paths, or closed service entrances (“Heide Poorten”).

The result was daily frustration: searching traffic, nuisance at reception desks, and a poor first impression. As we often see: if the source data is incorrect, the route is worthless.

The solution

We change the literal 'Customer Journey'

Because visitors blindly rely on their navigation systems, the solution wasn’t found in physical road signs, but in Google Maps data. In close cooperation with Hilde de Vocht (Director Ecosystem Management), Localyse took on the role of ‘digital road authority’.

Our interventions to directly improve travel behavior:

  1. Attribute correction: We removed the ‘private’ status of the main road, ensuring exit 32a is now recognized by the algorithm as the preferred route.
  2. Consistent naming: We changed all “HTC” abbreviations to “High Tech Campus” to ensure better findability.
  3. Opening access gates: We correctly mapped the “Heide Poorten” (Heath Gates) so they are only used as routes where and when permitted.

The result

Findable AND reachable

The impact of the data corrections was immediately visible. Navigation systems now send visitors flawlessly via the exit to the correct parking lot.

  • Complaint reduction: The number of phone calls regarding the route dropped to zero.
  • Efficiency: No more searching traffic on and around the premises.
  • Customer Experience: A professional arrival that fits the status of the smartest kmΒ² in Europe.

Conclusion

By improving a few crucial data points, we positively changed the physical journey of thousands of people. High Tech Campus is now not only visible on the map, but actually reachable.

“The goal is to be findable and reachable, right where travelers already are. Together with Hilde de Vocht’s team, we ensured that the digital route to the campus is now finally just as smart as the campus itself.”
