The Challenge

Intergamma faced the challenge of replacing outdated in-store hardware for store employees. A large portion of the equipment was running on legacy systems (Windows 7 & 8.1), which were reaching the end of their lifecycle.

The business requirements were:

  • A hardware package that is easy to implement, manage, and deploy for all frontline and office employees.
  • A low Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) was essential.
  • Strict security requirements, including a zero-trust policy and the ability to remotely wipe devices in case of theft.

The new solution had to integrate seamlessly with existing software, including OKTA for authentication.

The Solution

Chrome Enterprise on ACER Hardware

In collaboration with Localyse, Intergamma chose to implement Chrome Enterprise on ACER hardware to replace the outdated devices. The solution was fully tailored to the needs of the frontline workers.

Implementation and Scope:

Phase 1 (Q4 2021): A Proof of Concept (PoC) and functional/technical evaluation to determine whether Chrome Enterprise could operate within the Intergamma environment.
Phase 2 (Q2–Q3 2023): Large-scale rollout of the devices.
Delivered Hardware:

  • 1600 Chromeboxes CXI 5 i3
  • 375 Chromebooks Vero 514
  • 1900 Displays Vero
  • 1600 Keyboards + Mice

Role of Localyse

Localyse acted as the trusted advisor and system integrator guiding the entire process from PoC to final rollout. This included managing demos, handling negotiations, and streamlining quotations to ensure a smooth project execution.

Results and Benefits

Intergamma chose Chrome OS for three key reasons:

  1. Cost Savings:The overall cost (purchase, licenses, and management) was the main factor. The low TCO was a decisive argument.
  2. Simplicity and Management: Ease of use and administration was highly valued. All existing Intergamma applications already ran exclusively in the browser, making Chrome OS an ideal fit.
  3. Standardization and Security: Intergamma already had experience using Chrome OS for in-store kiosks, which contributed to their choice for standardization. The devices are guaranteed 10 years of feature and security updates, a major advantage for the business case.

The decision to partner with ACER was based on their transparency, quick response times, competitive pricing, and the availability of Chromeboxes with the longest possible Google support period (10 years).
