Legacy SKUs: Time to Upgrade to the Latest Google Maps APIs!

Google continues to enhance its Maps technology, recently introducing the new Places API and Routes API. As a result, older APIs will be classified as Legacy SKUs. But what does this mean for you?

Legacy Services

Are you using the Places API, Distance Matrix API, or Directions API? If so, it’s time to transition to the latest versions. Starting March 1, these APIs will be designated as Legacy SKUs, meaning they can no longer be activated for new projects. While they will remain functional for now, support will be reduced, and they are expected to be phased out in the future.

Routes API

The new Routes API replaces both the Distance Matrix API and the Directions API, combining and improving their functionalities. As a result, the older APIs are now considered Legacy services. This means they will receive less support, cannot be activated for new projects, and will have a revised pricing structure. More details on these changes can be found in this blog post.

Places API

The Places API has also been upgraded, with enhanced services like the Place Details API, Autocomplete API, and Nearby Search API. The new version offers richer location data and improved functionality. The older Places API services will be classified as Legacy SKUs, meaning they cannot be enabled for new projects. Additionally, the pricing structure will change. More details can be found in this blog post.

Conclusion

Starting March 1, the old Places, Distance Matrix, and Directions APIs will become Legacy SKUs, with reduced support, a revised pricing structure, and no activation for new projects. The new Routes and Places APIs offer faster, smarter, and more efficient features. Want to stay ahead and ensure optimal performance? Migrate now and take advantage of the latest improvements!
